Welcome to the Graphic Standards Manual of St. George’s School. This book is designed primarily for anyone who wants to communicate on behalf of St. George’s School. It will provide you with the information and inspiration you need to present your message within a visual identity structure that ensures consistency and clarity.
ST George's School Graphic Standards
In 1964, Marshall McLuhan coined the phrase: “the medium is the message”. As educators and staff who support an educational environment, we are constantly delivering messaging to our students. What a graphic standards manual does is ensure that the messaging is imparted within recognizable and reproducible templates that have been designed by people who understand the impact of visual identity as a key part of effective communication. Ultimately, a consistent graphic standards approach ensures that our messaging is immediately recognized from having come from St. George’s School.
While there is always a tendency to create and personalize, I cannot impress upon each one of us how important it is to incorporate these guidelines, as they are defined, in whatever you create. None of us must take it upon ourselves to alter these without the express approval of the Communications Department.
We hope you agree that these guidelines provide us with the opportunity to tell our story using striking images, fonts, and appropriate white space, all of which send the message that we are a school rich in tradition but positioned for the 21st Century and beyond.
This Graphic Standards book is a living document, and sections will be added to it or refined as more visual elements of the brand are added or enhanced. As always, your support of this school initiative is very much appreciated.
